The Poker Career of Joe Beevers

Before he became a professional poker player, Joe Beevers was a regular employee, working first for NatWest and then transferred to Citibank. And prior to his involvement in the poker industry, he was more interested in playing blackjack. As a matter of fact, he was only ten years old when he was taught by his father how to count cards in blackjack. He was playing blackjack well that he became part of a card-counting team when he was a teenager. His success in playing such casino game led to unfortunate incidents though. He, his father, and the rest of the card-counting team were banned from a number of casinos in London, England for playing so well.

Born on December 9, 1967 in Marylebone, London, England, Joe Beevers decided to try his luck in playing poker instead. The start of his career in poker was not very good as he would always end up losing. This, however, did not discourage him from playing poker. Instead, he vowed to himself that he would improve his poker skills until he became one of the best professional poker players.

True enough, Joe Beevers eventually started to play poker well, making him decide to leave office work and concentrate on being a professional poker player.

Before the popularity of televised poker, Joe Beevers and his fellow professional poker player Ram Vaswani used to hold private poker events. It was in these events that Joe Beevers and Vaswani met Ross and Barny Boatman. And it was during this time that these four professional poker players formed their group called The Hendon Mob.

The Hendon Mob eventually became popular all over the world. The group's first television appearance was when it was invited to appear in the television series titled "Late Night Poker." The Hendon Mob was also invited to participate in the World Series of Poker, but Joe Beevers was its first member to be given the chance to join the game show. That was in 1996 where Joe Beevers placed fourteenth in the US$2,500 pot limit Texas Hold'em Event.

Well, Joe Beevers' achievements do not end there. In 2003, he placed second in the Poker Million event. It was professional poker player Jimmy White who won in this game.

In the same year, he also placed second in the Gaming Club World Poker Championship event. In this game, it was professional poker player Xuyen Pham who won the first prize.

The other poker events where Joe Beevers emerged victorious were the Four Queens Poker Classic event in 2004m the Poker Classics event and the Irish Open event in 2003, the British Open event in 2002, the Hold'em 100 event in 2000, the Great British Poker Tour in 2007, and the third season of the World Poker Tour.
