In the last 2005 World Series of Poker, the poker player who came up the champion is an Australian named Joe Hachem. This poker player was originally from Lebanon, but moved with his family to Melbourne, Australia.
According to Joe Hachem, before taking up poker, he was a chiropractor. But because his physical health is no longer at optimum condition, he can no longer effectively practice his profession. Thus, while in between careers, he decided to play poker. Most of the time, Joe Hachem plays poker online. And sometimes, perhaps to gain experience, he visits The Crown Casino, which is also located in Melbourne, Australia.
Then, believing that he has enough skills and experience, Joe Hachem decided to join the celebrated World Series of Poker. He kept on winning until he found himself inside the closed doors of the final poker table. There, inside the Binion's Horsehoe, Joe Hachem took his final win. Joe Hachem defeated a total of 5,618 poker players. He won a total of $7,649,943. Such a staggeringly huge amount was never won before in any tournament game.
When asked about what he plans to do with his money, Joe Hachem did not give a lot of details. But as a family man, he declared that his family (mother, wife and kids) will be the top beneficiaries of his winnings. Joe Hachem has four children.
When interviewed about his favorites, Joe Hachem admitted that his favorite poker game is Texas Hold'em. And the poker players that he respected most are Chris Moneymaker and Greg Raymer. Joe Hachem explained that he respected these professional poker players because he followed in their footsteps. That is, Joe Hachem also won the "biggest event in the history of poker".
Of course, the question of taxes arises. A professional poker player must always pay his gaming taxes. In the case of Joe Hachem, his status of being a professional poker player is not yet established, although he has played poker for ten years already. He is an extremely excellent poker player, but he was a chiropractor before and was still trying to decide on what career to take next. After winning the 2005 WSOP, such a decision making moment may have taken a farther back seat. Joe Hachem has yet to deal with tax.
When not playing poker, another hobby taken up by Joe Hachem is golf. But now sporting one WSOP bracelet, Joe Hachem may seriously focus on poker.
The man who won second place in the 2005 WSOP was Steve Dannenmann.
